Gifts of retirement assets
Donating part or all of your unused retirement assets, such as your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension or other tax-deferred plan, is an excellent way to make a gift to CJP.
Like many people, you may have more retirement assets than you will use during your lifetime. You can name CJP as a beneficiary of your unused retirement assets to help support our work in the community.

Benefits of gifts of retirement assets
- Simplify your planning
- Establish a meaningful legacy in minutes
- Continue to use your retirement assets as long as you need
- Qualify for an estate tax charitable deduction and potentially reduce the tax burden on your family
How to make a gift of retirement assets
To leave your retirement assets to CJP you will need to complete a beneficiary designation form provided by your retirement plan custodian and inform CJP of your plans. You can use the "Make a future gift of retirement assets" tool on this page to contact your retirement plan custodian and designate a future gift to CJP.
More to know about gifts of retirement assets
Did you know that retirement assets left to heirs are subject to gift and estate tax in addition to income tax? This tax burden makes retirement assets less desirable for heirs and well-suited for charitable purposes. Consider leaving your heirs assets that receive a step up in basis, such as real estate and stock, and give the retirement assets to charity. CJP benefits from the full value of gifts of retirement assets because, as a charity, we are not taxed upon receiving retirement plan assets. Your estate will qualify for an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift.
